Rome Day 1

Pizza, pasta, columns, crosses, and churches. Warm smiles, hot sun, and a rich history. I <3 Rome.

We stayed in Champagne Palace Hotel, near Termini Station and lots of cheap food (for Europe) - which was located a few blocks from Santa Maria Maggiore (a beautiful Papal Basilica) and the Colosseum.

Our first day was marked by a visit to Santa Maria Maggiore, Italian mass, a nap four times the intended length, Santa Maria di Montes, and the Colosseum at night.

Outside of Santa Maria di Montes, an old Italian man approached us. "English speaking?" he asked in a raspy Italian accent.

"Yes."

He leaned in. "There are over eight hundred churches in Rome... You just have to look!" And with that, he was gone as fast as he came.

Well, the man was right, Rome is a city of grandiose churches that leave you wandering with your jaw open, marveling in man's love of God. By the time we left the Eternal City, we went to 1/100 of the churches available to our curiosity. The eight churches that we visited were among the most beautiful sites I've ever seen.
